Elizabeth S. and Gary L. Cole Scholarship in Art

Each year, SACI Board of Trustees member Elizabeth Cole and her husband, Gary, offer the Elizabeth S. and Gary L. Cole Scholarship in Art to a Bowling Green State University (BGSU) student for travel and study at SACI during the Late Spring term. The award is between $500 and $1000. Candidates must be BFA art or BA art history majors (sophomore, junior, rising senior) in good academic standing. Recipients are chosen by an internal selection committee at BGSU, based on submission of a selected portfolio of 6-8 works of art for BFA art majors or two academic writing samples for BA art history majors.

General Scholarship Information Sources and Websites

A wide variety of arts groups, civic groups, and other organizations offer scholarships to students interested specifically in study abroad. Some scholarships are made possible by one-time donations or may be annual awards. Students' Guide to Scholarships, Grants, and Funding Sources in International Education and Other Disciplines is a comprehensive reference source on funding publications, websites, and grants in international education and other fields of study (contact Charles Gliozzo, Michigan State University, Office of International Studies and Programs, Rm. 4c, Center for International Studies and Programs, East Lansing, Michigan 48824). Many scholarship guides are available in the local library or bookstore; however, by far the most popular way to search for scholarships is through the internet. Several sites offer scholarship information to students with no fee. Beware of any sites charging a fee for scholarship searches since some of these sites are not reputable.

University professors from the art department at the student’s current or former home school may also be able to suggest possible scholarship sources in addition to the scholarships listed. Some useful sites to begin the search are shown below.
