Studio Art Centers International is a directly accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).
SACI is affiliated with Bowling Green State University in Ohio, which is accredited by NASAD and by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. BGSU is also a member of the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges, the Midwest Association of Graduate Schools, the Council of Graduate Schools, and the Central States Universities, Inc.
Students may obtain a copy of SACI’s accreditation approval by submitting a written request for this material to SACI’s President or Dean.
A transcript is maintained for each student who attends SACI. The transcript lists all classes in which a student was enrolled while at SACI, the grades earned in these classes, and the number of credits received for completing each class. Each institution to which a student applies to undertake course work elsewhere will review the student's SACI transcript--and transcripts from any other university-level programs in which the student earned credit--and determine how many credits the student can transfer to that institution. The amount will vary per school--some schools may accept all course work completed at SACI and/or elsewhere, others may accept some, and others may accept no transfer credit. SACI’s affiliate institution, Bowling Green State University (BGSU), normally accepts all SACI course work in which a student received a grade of “C” or above. The only way to be certain about how many credits will transfer--whether earned at SACI or elsewhere--is for the student to request a written response from each school he or she is interested in attending (including BGSU, if the student is interested in attending there). It is very important that the student get the response in writing in each instance since then the student will have proof that an official from that particular school indicated that the school will accept whatever number of credits was indicated.
No. SACI offers beginning courses in all studio areas that assume no prior knowledge of art. Many academic courses are also offered at SACI. See the Courses section of the website for a complete list of all studio and academic courses.
Since students are encouraged to apply online, it is not necessary to submit all pieces of your application at the same time. We will add required documents (official transcripts, recommendation letters, etc.) to your file as they come in. Please be aware that we will not process any incomplete applications. Once your application is complete, it generally takes 2-3 weeks for you to receive notification.
Post-Baccalaureate applicants must submit 15 images for Studio Art, 2 original papers for Art History, 15 images and/or 2 original papers for Art Conservation.
MFA Two Year Degree and BGSU MFA applicants are required to submit 15-20 images of their artwork.
Scholarship applicants must submit 15-20 images of their artwork or 5 minutes of time-based work or 2 writing samples.
The New York Admissions Office will provide instructions on how to submit these online.
All other students applying for courses at the intermediate or advanced level or with pre-requisites should submit 6 samples of their artwork. For additional information, please refer to “Portfolio requirements” in the Registration section.
If you are required to have one or more recommendation letters, academic references are preferred. Recommendations from personal friends or relatives will not be accepted.
When you begin the online admissions process you will create a username and password to establish a SACI account which you can access to check on the status of your application. Once your application and application fee are submitted, we will email you to confirm receipt of your application and to confirm the support materials we are requesting for your desired program. When your support documents are received and reviewed, we will notify you by e-mail and packets will be mailed to admitted students.

Yes. All applicants (including those interested in the Late Spring and Summer terms) must submit official transcripts. If you have been out of school for more than five years, you should also submit a resume or CV.
No. SACI is not an undergraduate degree-granting institution and cannot accept transfer credits for any reason.
SACI does not accept credits earned at other institutions toward fulfillment of requirements for earning SACI's Post-Baccalaureate certificate.
That would depend upon the requirements of your home school. For example, some schools (such as Duke University, Claremont McKenna College, and Bates College) require that their students enroll in an Italian language course each term that they are at SACI. You should check with your home school advisor to learn whether you are required to take a specific course while at SACI.
