Carolyne King (Spring Term 1997)
"I have been thinking a lot about why it is I paint. Usually, writing statements like this one are very easy. I have incredibly thought-out content and context behind me in the form of a couple of large canvases. But recently I began to feel bogged down with research and reading. The pursuit of knowledge and ideas which use to influence and assist in the creation of my art was not actually hindering or overwhelming my creative process.
So, I went back to the basics. I eliminated all the ‘decoration’ or big ideas and just started painting. The creative process became the content. Line, color, form became the narrative. And, the viewers can put it into any context they wish." Carolyne King
